Alexander Pope Jr. fue un artista estadounidense, tanto en pintura como en talla de madera, especializado principalmente en temas de caza y naturaleza muerta. Nació en Dorchester, Massachusetts, y murió en Boston, Massachusetts. Estudió brevemente bajo la tutela del escultor William Copley y fue uno de los artistas estadounidenses más populares en temas de juegos. En su juventud, tallaba y dibujaba animales alrededor de su casa en Massachusetts. En la década de 1860, trabajó para el negocio maderero de su familia. Pope estudió talla, pintura, perspectiva y anatomía con William Rimmer, un importante escultor y pintor romántico-barroco e influyente maestro de muchos artistas de Boston. Publicó dos conjuntos de versiones cromolitográficas de sus acuarelas: Upland Game Birds and Water Fowl of the United States (1878) y Celebrated Dogs of America (1882). Entre 1879 y 1883, Pope creó muchas esculturas de caza muy bien recibidas; el zar Alejandro III de Rusia adquirió dos de las esculturas. Pope se convirtió en miembro de la Sociedad de Arte Copley de Boston después de su fundación en 1879. En 1893, Pope comenzó a pintar retratos de animales y, más tarde, siguió una carrera como pintor de retratos. También pintó obras de trompe-l'œil.
