Andrea Mantegna

Andrea Mantegna was een Italiaanse schilder, een student Romeinse archeologie en schoonzoon van Jacopo Bellini. Net als andere kunstenaars van zijn tijd experimenteerde Mantegna met perspectief, bijvoorbeeld door de horizon te verlagen om een gevoel van grotere monumentaliteit te creëren. Zijn vuursteenachtige, metaalachtige landschappen en enigszins steenachtige figuren tonen aan dat zijn schilderkunst in wezen een sculpturale benadering had. Hij leidde ook een werkplaats die vóór 1500 de belangrijkste producent van prenten in Venetië was。
