Camille Félix Bellanger fu il brillante allievo di Alexandre Cabanel e William Bouguereau all'École des Beaux-Arts (Scuola di Belle Arti). Mentre lavorava come insegnante di disegno presso l'accademia militare di Saint-Cyr, dipinse la campagna bretone e i suoi abitanti e realizzò grandi tele in stile accademico che idealizzavano la realtà della vita rurale.
