Conrad Martin Metz
Stich alter Meister und Michelangelo
Der Kupferstecher, Zeichner und Maler Conrad Martin Metz wurde zwischen 1745 und 1749 in Bonn geboren. Er studierte in London an den Schulen der Royal Academy und bei dem Kupferstecher (und Gründungsakademiker) Francesco Bartolozzi. Metz stach viele religiöse Motive nach den alten Meistern in Publikationen wie Imitations of Drawings by Parmegiano. Im Jahr 1801 ging er nach Rom, wo er sein ehrgeizigstes Projekt in Angriff nahm – einen großen Stich in fünfzehn Platten von Michelangelos Jüngstem Gericht in der Sixtinischen Kapelle.
