Cornelis Corneliszoon van Haarlem
Líder manierista holandés y retratista
Cornelis Corneliszoon van Haarlem, pintor y dibujante del Siglo de Oro neerlandés, fue uno de los principales artistas del manierismo nórdico en los Países Bajos y un importante precursor de Frans Hals como retratista. Nacido en Haarlem, Cornelis Corneliszoon fue alumno de Pieter Pietersz en Haarlem y más tarde de Gillis Coignet en Amberes. Es conocido entre los historiadores del arte como miembro de los manieristas de Haarlem, quienes estuvieron muy influenciados por la obra de Bartholomeus Spranger, cuyos dibujos fueron llevados a Haarlem por Carel van Mander en 1585, teniendo un fuerte efecto inmediato. Pintó principalmente retratos, así como temas mitológicos y bíblicos. Inicialmente, Cornelis Cornelisz pintó obras de gran formato y altamente estilizadas, con desnudos de estilo italiano en poses retorcidas y una anatomía grotesca y antinatural. Más tarde, su estilo evolucionó hacia uno basado en la tradición realista neerlandesa.
