Domenico Gargiulo
Pintor barroco napolitano de paisagens
Domenico Gargiulo, chamado Micco Spadaro, foi um pintor italiano do período barroco, ativo principalmente em Nápoles e conhecido por suas paisagens, cenas de gênero e pinturas históricas. Domenico Gargiulo era filho de um fabricante de espadas, o que lhe rendeu o apelido de 'Micco Spadaro' ('spadaro' significa 'fabricante de espadas'). Ele foi treinado na oficina do pintor de batalhas Aniello Falcone, onde foi contemporâneo de Andrea di Leone e Salvator Rosa. Também trabalhou com Viviano Codazzi, a cujas pinturas arquitetônicas ele adicionou figuras. Suas primeiras obras foram influenciadas por Paul Bril, cujos trabalhos ele deve ter conhecido pelos afrescos paisagísticos de 1602 no átrio de Santa Maria Regina Coeli em Nápoles. Ele também foi influenciado por Filippo Napoletano. Entre seus alunos estavam Pietro Pesce e Ignazio Oliva. Ele foi patrocinado por colecionadores como Gaspar Roomer. Também trabalhou na Certosa di San Martino, onde pintou no Coro dei Conversi e no Quarto del priori. Ele pintou uma representação da insurreição de Masaniello e da peste de 1656.
