Elias Martin
Zweedse eerste grote landschapschilder
Elias Martin was een Zweeds genre-, historie- en landschapsschilder en graveur uit Stockholm. Hij is bekend om zijn aquarellen van Stockholm en zijn olieverfschilderijen van landschappen met romantische lichteffecten. De Nationalencyklopedin beschrijft hem als Zweden's "eerste grote landschapsschilder". Tot de beroemdste werken van Martin uit deze periode behoren de schilderijen die hij maakte in de Bodleian Library in Oxford. Deze omvatten Britomartis befriande Amoret ur trollqvinnans våld (Nederlands: Britomart bevrijdt Amor van de bezetenheid door de heks; gebaseerd op het epische gedicht The Faerie Queene van Edmund Spenser) en Arkebiskop Langton, som af konungen erhåller en handling.
