奥地利画家弗朗茨·理查德·翁特贝格是一位擅长水景、风景、建筑和风俗画的浪漫主义风格画家，于1838年8月15日出生在当时的奥匈帝国因斯布鲁克，是一个富裕资产阶级家庭的十一个孩子之一。他在相对年轻的年龄决定追求艺术家的职业生涯，并进入慕尼黑学院学习。在这里，他师从学院教授兼风景画家阿尔伯特·齐默尔曼（1808-1888）和朱利叶斯·兰格（1817-1878）。 Unterberger 最初是以阿尔卑斯风景画家的身份获得认可，其作品尤其以他的故乡蒂罗尔为背景。1860年，Unterberger 继续在杜塞尔多夫深造；在这一尤为重要的时期，他深受风景画家奥斯瓦尔德·阿申巴赫（1827-1905）及其弟弟安德烈亚斯（1815-1910）作品的影响。安德烈亚斯也是一位风景画家，在19世纪70年代移居意大利之前，曾在斯堪的纳维亚地区广泛创作。
