Gabriel de Saint-Aubin

Gabriel de Saint-Aubin, également connu sous le nom de Gabriel Jacques de Saint-Aubin, était un dessinateur, graveur et peintre français. Ses frères Charles Germain de Saint Aubin et Augustin de Saint-Aubin étaient également artistes, tout comme sa nièce Marie-François, fille de Charles. Il fut élève d'Étienne Jeaurat et d'Hyacinthe Collin de Vermont. Après trois échecs pour remporter le Prix de Rome de 1752 à 1754, il quitta l'Académie des Beaux-Arts et rejoignit la Guilde de Saint-Luc. Un aspect distinctif de l'art de Saint-Aubin est sa passion démesurée pour observer la société dans les rues de la capitale, qu'il dessinait lors de ses promenades. Ses gravures, lithographies et grandes aquarelles constituent donc un précieux témoignage de la vie artistique parisienne au XVIIIe siècle.
