Gabriel de Saint-Aubin

Gabriel de Saint-Aubin, noto anche come Gabriel Jacques de Saint-Aubin, era un disegnatore, incisore e pittore francese. I suoi fratelli Charles Germain de Saint Aubin e Augustin de Saint-Aubin erano anch'essi artisti, così come sua nipote Marie-François, figlia di Charles. Fu allievo di Étienne Jeaurat e Hyacinthe Collin de Vermont. Dopo tre fallimenti per vincere il Prix de Rome tra il 1752 e il 1754, lasciò l'Accademia delle Belle Arti e si unì alla Gilda di San Luca. Un aspetto distintivo dell'arte di Saint-Aubin è la sua eccessiva predilezione per osservare la società nelle strade della capitale, che disegnava nei suoi viaggi. Le sue incisioni, litografie e grandi acquerelli sono quindi un prezioso documento della vita artistica parigina nel XVIII secolo.
