乔治·巴雷特
爱尔兰风景画先驱与皇家学院创始人
乔治·巴雷特（老）RA是一位爱尔兰风景画家，以油画最为著名，但也偶尔创作水彩画。他于1762年离开爱尔兰移居伦敦，并很快被公认为当时最杰出的艺术家之一。他曾在大不列颠艺术家协会展出作品，并赢得了众多顶级艺术收藏家的赞助。1768年，巴雷特与其他核心成员一同退出该协会，共同创立了皇家艺术学院，并在此持续展出作品直至1782年。 巴雷特似乎曾在英格兰广泛游历，包括湖区和怀特岛，还曾前往威尔士和苏格兰，以为其赞助人完成委托作品。他患有哮喘，这促使他于1772年迁居至威斯本格林，当时那里还是帕丁顿以西的一个乡村。尽管他通过绘画赚取了可观的收入，但人们却形容他在花钱方面“挥霍无度”。 1782年，他得到了埃德蒙·伯克的帮助。早在伯克就读于都柏林三一学院时，两人便已结为好友。经伯克推荐，他获得了切尔西医院首席画师的任命，并一直担任该职直至1784年去世。他去世时，遗孀和子女生活无着，但皇家艺术学院向其遗孀发放了每年三十英镑的抚恤金。
