喬治·巴雷特
愛爾蘭風景畫先驅與皇家學院創始人
喬治·巴雷特（老）RA是一位愛爾蘭風景畫家，以油畫最為著名，但也偶爾創作水彩畫。他於1762年離開愛爾蘭移居倫敦，並很快被公認為當時最傑出的藝術家之一。他曾在大不列顛藝術家協會展出作品，並贏得了眾多頂級藝術收藏家的贊助。1768年，巴雷特與其他核心成員一同退出該協會，共同創立了皇家藝術學院，並在此持續展出作品直至1782年。 巴雷特似乎曾在英格蘭廣泛遊歷，包括湖區和懷特島，還曾前往威爾斯和蘇格蘭，以為其贊助者完成委託作品。他患有氣喘，這促使他於1772年遷居至威斯本格林，當時那裡還是帕丁頓以西的一個鄉村。儘管他透過繪畫賺取了可觀的收入，但人們卻形容他在花錢方面「揮霍無度」。 1782年，他得到了埃德蒙·伯克的幫助。早在伯克就讀於都柏林三一學院時，兩人便已結為好友。經伯克推薦，他獲得了切爾西醫院首席畫師的任命，並一直擔任該職直至1784年去世。他去世時，遺孀和子女生活無著，但皇家藝術學院向其遺孀發放了每年三十英鎊的撫卹金。
