乔治·亨利·梅森

乔治·亨利·梅森是一名英国陆军军官，曾于1795年由东印度公司晋升为第102步兵团（皇家马德拉斯燧发枪团）少校，后于1801年晋升为中校。梅森曾于1789年前往广州。当时广州是中国仅有的两个允许外人合法通商的城市之一，梅森珍惜这次机会，向英国那些足不出户、眼界狭隘却充满好奇的“扶手椅游客”提供关于这片“异域”外邦的“部分知识和总体娱乐”。他撰写了两部颇具影响力的著作：《中国服饰》（1800年）和《中国刑罚》（1801年）。
