喬治·亨利·梅森

喬治·亨利·梅森是一名英國陸軍軍官，曾於1795年由東印度公司晉升為第102步兵團（皇家馬德拉斯燧發槍團）少校，後於1801年晉升為中校。梅森曾於1789年前往廣州。當時廣州是中國僅有的兩個允許外人合法通商的城市之一，梅森珍惜這次機會，向英國那些足不出戶、眼界狹隘卻充滿好奇的「扶手椅遊客」提供關於這片「異域」外邦的「部分知識和總體娛樂」。他撰寫了兩部頗具影響力的著作：《中國服飾》（1800年）和《中國刑罰》（1801年）。
