喬治·瓊斯
以軍事題材繪畫聞名
喬治·瓊斯是一位英國畫家，曾任皇家藝術學院院長，以軍事題材繪畫最為著名。 瓊斯是美柔汀版畫家約翰·瓊斯的獨子。1801年，年僅15歲的他便成為皇家藝術學院的學生，並於1803年展出了其首幅描繪聖經場景的作品。在隨後的八年裡，他頻繁在皇家藝術學院展出作品。他曾加入皇家蒙哥馬利民兵隊；其被委任為上尉的日期記載為1812年2月17日。他有可能早在1808年就曾在南德文民兵隊服役。他的訃告稱，他曾隨連隊志願赴西班牙參加實戰，但可以肯定的是，滑鐵盧戰役之後，他確係駐巴黎佔領軍的一員。 戰後，他重拾藝術事業，並憑藉描繪軍事戰役的畫作贏得了獎項與聲譽。1822年，他當選為皇家藝術學院準院士；1824年成為正式院士，隨後出任該院圖書館館長，並於1840年至1850年間擔任藏品保管人。他是版畫家查爾斯·特納以及J·M·W·特納的朋友，後來更成為後者最忠實的遺囑執行人——不僅為其撰寫了簡短的回憶錄，還創作了一系列畫作，記錄下其畫廊的風貌。然而，與兩位特納不同的是，他在倫敦曾居住過的舊居上竟沒有任何紀念牌匾，原因至今令人費解。 他於1844年與格特魯德·安妮·洛斯科姆結婚。 他於1869年9月19日在攝政公園的公園廣場去世。
