乔治·伍利斯克罗夫特·雷德
工艺美术运动版画家设计师
乔治·伍利斯科罗夫特·里德于1855年出生在北斯塔福德郡。他的父亲是一位才华横溢的陶器设计师，乔治于1871年移居伦敦，在W. S. 科尔曼的指导下进入明顿工作室工作。随后，他获得奖学金进入南肯辛顿艺术学院学习。他师从前拉斐尔派艺术家福特·马多克斯·布朗学习绘画，并跟随法国大师阿尔丰斯·莱格罗学习蚀刻版画。作为一名画家、蚀刻版画家以及彩色玻璃和陶瓷设计师，乔治·伍利斯科罗夫特·里德是源于前拉斐尔派的英国工艺美术运动的核心人物。 他在蚀刻版画方面尤为才华横溢，于1883年当选为皇家画家与蚀刻版画家学会会员。他曾两次结婚：1894年与路易丝结为连理，1914年又迎娶了苏格兰艺术家安妮·弗伦奇。他的兄弟弗雷德里克·阿尔弗雷德·里德留在了陶器产区，其四个子女也随他投身陶瓷行业，其中包括设计师夏洛特·里德。路易斯·约翰·里德于1883年移居纽约，后成为美国公民，被公认为美国新艺术运动最重要的艺术家之一。乔治·伍利斯科罗夫特·里德则留在伦敦，并于1920年在那里去世。
