ジョヴァンニ・バッティスタ・フォッジーニ
小型青銅像で有名
ジョヴァンニ・バッティスタ(ジャンバッティスタ)・フォッジーニは、フィレンツェで活動したイタリアの彫刻家で、主に小規模なブロンズ像で知られています。 フィレンツェに生まれた若きフォッジーニは、トスカーナ大公メディチ家によってローマに派遣され、いわゆるフィオレンティーナ学院に入り、アルガルディの弟子であるエルコレ・フェラータのローマの彫刻工房で修業を積んだ。彼はまた、コルトーナの弟子であり同学院の初代院長(1673〜86年)を務めたチロ・フェッリからも素描の指導を受けた。1676年にフィレンツェへ帰還した後、コジモ3世の宮廷彫刻家となった。 1686年にピエトロ・タッカの息子フェルナンドが死去すると、地元随一の彫刻家の座はフォッジーニに引き継がれた。彼は後にメディチ家の「首席建築家兼セレーニッシマ宮廷首席彫刻家」となり、さらに工事監督官(1687年〜1725年)も務めた。1687年、フォッジーニはかつて彫刻家ジャンボローニャが所有していたボルゴ・ピンティの鋳造所を取得した。これにより、彼は主に輸出向けに高収益で生産される小型ブロンズ像の制作を専門とすることができた。彼がピエトロ・タッカのムーア人像を翻案した作品は、18世紀に入ってもなお、愛好家市場向けのブロンズや陶磁器による複製の基盤となった。 フィレンツェにおける彼の傑作は、カルミネ教会のコルシーニ礼拝堂にある彫刻レリーフである。この礼拝堂は、バルトロメオとネリ・コルシーニ枢機卿が、最近列聖された一族の先祖である聖アンドレア・コルシーニを記念して建立したものである。礼拝堂内には聖人の生涯を描いた3つの大きな大理石レリーフがあり、『栄光の聖アンドレア』、『聖アンドレア・コルシーニのミサ』、『アンギアーリの戦い』(1685–87年)が含まれる。彼はまた、サンティッシマ・アヌンツィアータ大聖堂のフェローニ礼拝堂でも作品を完成させた。その他の作品として、フィレンツェのメディチ・リッカルディ宮殿の大階段がある。 彼の小型ブロンズ作品の中には『ゴリアテの首を持つダビデ』がある。 フォッジーニの弟子には、フェルナンド・フーガ、甥のフィリッポ・デッラ・ヴァッレ、バルタザール・ペルモーザー、ジョヴァッキーノ・フォルティーニ、ジョヴァンニ・バラッタが含まれる。マッシミリアーノ・ソルダーニ・ベンツィはローマでフォッジーニと同時期に学んだ同輩であり、小型ブロンズ彫刻の分野でも活躍した。
