乔瓦尼·贝内代托·卡斯蒂廖内是热那亚画派的意大利巴洛克画家、版画家和素描家。他如今最为人所知的是其蚀刻版画作品，以及作为独幅版画技法的发明者。他在意大利被称为“Il Grechetto”，在法国则被称为“Le Benédette”。 卡斯蒂廖内出生于热那亚。他早期的师承经历尚不明确。他可能曾师从西尼巴尔多·斯科尔扎。维特科尔称他是安东尼·凡·戴克（1621年抵达热那亚）和彼得·保罗·鲁本斯（17世纪初十年间曾居于此城，其画作在当地随处可见）的“热忱追随者”。他也可能曾在热那亚画家贝尔纳多·斯特罗齐门下学艺。1634年至约1645年间，他旅居罗马，随后返回热那亚。他还曾游历佛罗伦萨与那不勒斯。1647年他重返罗马，后于1651年迁居曼图亚，担任公爵卡洛二世及其妻子伊莎贝拉·基亚拉·德·奥地利的宫廷画家。他最终在曼图亚逝世。 他创作肖像画、历史题材作品和风景画，但最擅长的还是描绘带有动物的集市、市集和乡村场景。诺亚方舟以及动物们登上方舟是他钟爱的题材之一。 卡斯蒂廖内是一位杰出的素描家，并开创了将油画速写（常采用混合媒介）作为独立完整作品呈现的先河——而在此之前，这类速写仅被用作创作其他成品的习作草图，例如鲁本斯便曾如此运用。他反复描绘相同的题材，但每次的构图都大相径庭。
