Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo

Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo foi um pintor e gravador italiano especializado em água-forte. Era filho do artista Giovanni Battista Tiepolo e irmão mais velho de Lorenzo Baldissera Tiepolo. Domenico nasceu em Veneza, estudou com seu pai e, aos 13 anos, era seu assistente principal. Foi um dos muitos assistentes, incluindo Lorenzo, que transferiram os desenhos de seu pai (executados no «esboço a óleo» inventado por este). Aos 20 anos, já produzia suas próprias obras para encomendadores. Ele auxiliou seu pai em Würzburg entre 1751 e 1753, decorando o famoso afresco da escadaria, em Vicenza na Villa Valmarana em 1757, e em Madri no palácio de Carlos III entre 1762 e 1770. O seu estilo pictórico desenvolveu-se após a morte do seu pai em 1770, altura em que regressou a Veneza, tendo trabalhado lá, bem como em Génova e Pádua. Embora a sua pintura mantivesse a influência decorativa do seu pai, afastou-se da sua fantasia espacial e começou a adotar uma representação mais realista. Os seus retratos e cenas da vida em Veneza são caracterizados pelo movimento, pela cor e por uma composição deliberada.
