Heinrich Reinhold
Peintre paysagiste romantique allemand
Johann Heinrich Carl Reinhold était un peintre et graveur allemand. Heinrich Reinhold est né à Gera, en Thuringe, demi-frère cadet du peintre paysagiste Friedrich Philipp Reinhold (1779-1840). Il étudia d'abord à Dresden à l'Académie des Beaux-Arts (Akademie der bildenden Künste). En 1806, il rejoignit son frère à Vienna, où il fréquenta l'Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien. Il y attira l'attention du Directeur général des Musées à Paris, Dominique Vivant, Baron de Denon, et sur son conseil s'installa à Paris en 1809. Il y resta cinq ans, durant lesquels il travailla sur une œuvre consacrée aux campagnes de Napoléon. Il retourna à Vienna, puis en 1819 accompagna le peintre Johann Christoph Erhard en Italie. Après avoir passé du temps à Rome et à Naples, il parcourut Sicily en compagnie du Prince Lobkowitz. De retour à Rome, il tenta de dissuader son ami Erhard de se suicider, mais n'y parvint pas et tomba lui-même malade à en mourir au cours de cette tentative, décédant à l'âge de 36 ans. Il fut inhumé dans le Cimetière protestant de Rome, où son monument comprend une sculpture de Bertel Thorvaldsen.
