Hendrick van Steenwijck el Joven

Hendrik van Steenwijck II fue un pintor barroco especializado principalmente en interiores arquitectónicos, pero también en escenas bíblicas y bodegones. Van Steenwijck nació en Amberes. Su padre, el pintor holandés Hendrik van Steenwijck I, uno de los creadores del género de interiores, trasladó a la familia a Fráncfort del Meno en 1585, donde entrenó a su hijo. Tras la muerte de su padre en 1603, Van Steenwijck el Joven se hizo cargo del taller en Fráncfort, pero desde 1604 hasta 1617 trabajó principalmente en Amberes, colaborando con pintores barrocos flamencos tempranos como Frans Francken I y Jan Brueghel el Viejo. Van Steenwijck es más conocido por sus numerosos interiores imaginarios basados en la Catedral de Nuestra Señora de Amberes. Esto tuvo una influencia inmediata en las pinturas de Pieter Neeffs I. Después de establecerse en Londres antes de 1617, pintó fondos para Anthony van Dyck y Daniel Mytens el Viejo. Van Steenwijck se mudó a La Haya alrededor de 1638, donde fue pintor de la corte. Su esposa, Susanna van Steenwijk, también era pintora de arquitectura. Se mudó a Leiden alrededor de 1642. Van Steenwijck murió en Leiden o en La Haya.
