Hendrick van Steenwijck le Jeune
Maître des intérieurs d'église baroques
Hendrik van Steenwijck II était un peintre baroque spécialisé principalement dans les intérieurs architecturaux, mais aussi dans les scènes bibliques et les natures mortes. Van Steenwijck est né à Anvers. Son père, le peintre néerlandais Hendrik van Steenwijck I, l'un des fondateurs du genre des intérieurs, a déménagé la famille à Francfort-sur-le-Main en 1585, où il a formé son fils. À la mort de son père en 1603, Van Steenwijck le Jeune a repris l'atelier à Francfort, mais de 1604 à 1617, il a principalement travaillé à Anvers, collaborant avec des peintres baroques flamands précoces tels que Frans Francken I et Jan Brueghel l'Ancien. Van Steenwijck est surtout connu pour ses nombreuses scènes d'intérieur imaginaires basées sur la Cathédrale Notre-Dame d'Anvers. Cela eut une influence immédiate sur les peintures de Pieter Neeffs I. Après s'être installé à Londres avant 1617, il peignit des fonds pour Anthony van Dyck et Daniel Mytens l'Ancien. Van Steenwijck déménagea à La Haye vers 1638, où il fut peintre à la cour. Son épouse, Susanna van Steenwijk, était également une peintre d'architecture. Elle s'installa à Leyde vers 1642. Van Steenwijck mourut à Leyde ou à La Haye.
