Hendrick van Steenwijck il Giovane

Hendrik van Steenwijck II fu un pittore barocco specializzato principalmente in interni architettonici, ma anche in scene bibliche e nature morte. Van Steenwijck nacque ad Anversa. Su padre, il pittore olandese Hendrik van Steenwijck I, uno dei fondatori del genere degli interni, trasferì la famiglia a Francoforte sul Meno nel 1585, dove formò suo figlio. Alla morte del padre nel 1603, Van Steenwijck il Giovane rilevò lo studio a Francoforte, ma dal 1604 al 1617 fu principalmente attivo ad Anversa, collaborando con pittori barocchi fiamminghi precoci come Frans Francken I e Jan Brueghel il Vecchio. Van Steenwijck è meglio conosciuto per i suoi numerosi interni immaginari basati sulla Cattedrale di Nostra Signora di Anversa. Questi ebbero un'influenza immediata sui dipinti di Pieter Neeffs I. Dopo essersi stabilito a Londra entro il 1617, dipinse sfondi per Anthony van Dyck e Daniel Mytens il Vecchio. Van Steenwijck si trasferì all'Aia intorno al 1638, dove fu pittore di corte. Sua moglie, Susanna van Steenwijk, era anche una pittrice di architettura. Si trasferì a Leida intorno al 1642. Van Steenwijck morì a Leida o all'Aia.
