亨利·奥萨瓦·坦纳
首位获国际声誉的黑人画家
亨利·奥萨瓦·坦纳是一位美国艺术家，也是第一位获得国际声誉的非裔美国画家。坦纳于1891年移居法国巴黎学习艺术，并在被接纳进入法国艺术界后继续在那里生活。他的画作《但以理在狮子坑中》于1896年入选沙龙展——即巴黎美术学院的官方艺术展览。 年轻时通过自学艺术后，坦纳于1879年进入费城的宾夕法尼亚美术学院学习。作为当时唯一的黑人学生，他深受画家托马斯·埃金斯的喜爱，后者当时刚在那里开始任教。坦纳还与其他艺术家建立了联系，包括罗伯特·亨利。19世纪90年代末，罗德曼·瓦纳梅克被他创作的圣经题材画作所打动，资助他前往耶路撒冷穆塔萨里夫领地旅行。
