청록산수화 대가
Hu Tinghui(胡廷晖) was a painter of the Yuan dynasty from Wuxing (present-day Huzhou, Zhejiang), and he was from the same hometown as Zhao Mengfu. Many of his works were unsigned, just stamped with the seal 'Tinghui,' suggesting he was likely a professional painter. Hu Tinghui was once commissioned by Zhao Mengfu to complete Li Zhaodao's 'Picking Melons' and later reproduced the entire painting from memory. He excelled in blue-and-green landscapes as well as flower-and-bird paintings. His surviving work 'Dragon Boat Competition Scroll' is included in the 'Collection of Famous Chinese Paintings Through the Ages,' and 'Spring Mountains Boating Scroll' is now housed in the Palace Museum. The latter uses a small blue-green technique to depict spring landscapes, primarily with azurite and malachite, employing techniques like highlighting, blending, and enveloping colors. The composition combines high distance, deep distance, and level distance methods, retaining the traditional Tang dynasty style of blue-green landscapes, with a style similar to the 'Emperor Ming's Journey to Shu' in the Taipei Palace Museum collection.
