Jakob Christoph Miville
Paysages romantiques de nature vaste
Né à Bâle, Jakob Christoph Miville était un peintre et dessinateur ayant beaucoup voyagé. Un séjour à Rome et des tournées dans les Alpes ont influencé ses premiers paysages héroïques. Mais ce n'est que durant son séjour en Russie (1809–1817) qu'il a développé sa sensibilité distinctive envers la nature : les vastes étendues et les paysages qu'il a rencontrés en Crimée et dans le Caucase ont inspiré son évolution vers celui d'artiste paysagiste romantique. Il est retourné dans sa ville natale avec une vaste collection de croquis et d'études, qui ont servi de fondement aux peintures qu'il a continué à produire en Suisse.
