Jakob Christoph Miville
Paesaggi romantici di natura vasta
Nato a Basilea, Jakob Christoph Miville fu un pittore e disegnatore che viaggiò ampiamente. Un soggiorno a Roma e tour delle Alpi influenzarono i suoi primi paesaggi eroici. Ma fu solo durante il suo soggiorno in Russia (1809–1817) che sviluppò il suo peculiare senso della natura: le vaste distese e i panorami che incontrò in Crimea e nel Caucaso ispirarono la sua evoluzione in artista paesaggista romantico. Tornò nella sua città natale con una vasta collezione di schizzi e studi, che servirono come base per i dipinti che continuò a produrre in Svizzera.
