Jakob Christoph Miville
Paisagens românticas da natureza vasta
Nascido em Basileia, Jakob Christoph Miville foi um pintor e desenhista que viajou extensivamente. Uma estadia em Roma e excursões pelos Alpes influenciaram suas primeiras paisagens heroicas. Mas foi apenas durante sua permanência na Rússia (1809–1817) que ele desenvolveu sua sensibilidade distinta pela natureza: as vastas extensões e cenários que encontrou na Crimeia e no Cáucaso inspiraram sua evolução para um artista paisagista romântico. Ele retornou à sua cidade natal com uma extensa coleção de esboços e estudos, que serviram de base para as pinturas que continuou a produzir na Suíça.
