广阔自然的浪漫风景
雅各布·克里斯托夫·米维尔出生于巴塞尔，是一位游历广泛的画家和素描家。在罗马的逗留以及对阿尔卑斯山的游览，塑造了他早期的英雄式风景画风格。然而，直到他在俄罗斯停留期间（1809–1817年），他才发展出对自然的独特感受：在克里米亚和高加索地区所见的广阔天地与景色，促使他演变为一位浪漫主义风景画家。他带着大量的素描和研究作品回到故乡，这些作品成为他此后在瑞士继续创作绘画的基础。
