詹姆斯·汉密尔顿
受透纳启发的费城插画家
詹姆斯·汉密尔顿最初是一名商人，后来决定投身艺术事业。他曾在费城担任绘画教师，随后于1854年前往英国，研习特纳及其他伟大风景画家的作品。在海外一年后，汉密尔顿返回费城，在那里他以插画师的身份立足，参与了《北极探险》等书籍的绘制工作，该书是曾两次前往北极水域探险的伊莱沙·肯特·凯恩博士的回忆录。1875年，汉密尔顿将他的全部艺术作品在费城出售，为环球旅行做准备。然而，他只走到了旧金山，并于1878年在那里去世。
