Jan Abrahamsz Beerstraaten

Jan Abrahamsz Beerstraaten fue un pintor neerlandés de arte marino y paisajes, especialmente conocido por representar los acontecimientos de la primera guerra anglo-neerlandesa y la guerra entre Países Bajos y Suecia. Existe cierta confusión sobre la identidad de cuatro pintores de paisajes llamados Beerstraaten: Johannes, este Jan Abrahamsz, Abraham y Anthonie. El pintor Jan Abrahamsz se casó en Ámsterdam el 30 de agosto de 1642. De este matrimonio nacieron once hijos, y cuando se casó por segunda vez en 1665, nació una hija. Actualmente, el RKD registra a Johannes como la misma persona, y se considera que Abraham Beerstraaten es su hijo mayor. Anthonie Beerstraaten estaba emparentado con este pintor. El RKD ha registrado dos pinturas firmadas por Anthonie van Beerstraten: una es una vista de un puerto marítimo del sur de 1664 (actualmente ubicada en Enkhuizen) y la otra una vista de una iglesia en Aarlanderveen en el antiguo ayuntamiento de Alphen aan den Rijn. Basándose en estas dos pinturas, C. Hofstede de Groot, un temprano historiador del arte neerlandés, clasificó las pinturas firmadas por A. Beerstraaten como obras de Anthonie si eran de menor calidad que las ya atribuidas a Abraham.
