Jan Abrahamsz Beerstraaten

Jan Abrahamsz Beerstraaten était un peintre néerlandais d'art maritime et de paysages, particulièrement connu pour ses représentations des événements de la première guerre anglo-néerlandaise et de la guerre néerlando-suédoise. Il existe une certaine confusion concernant l'identité de quatre peintres paysagistes nommés Beerstraaten : Johannes, ce Jan Abrahamsz, Abraham et Anthonie. Le peintre Jan Abrahamsz s'est marié à Amsterdam le 30 août 1642. De ce mariage sont nés onze enfants, et lorsqu'il s'est remarié en 1665, une fille est née. Actuellement, le RKD considère Johannes comme étant la même personne, et Abraham Beerstraaten est considéré comme son fils aîné. Anthonie Beerstraaten était apparenté à ce peintre. Le RKD a enregistré deux tableaux signés Anthonie van Beerstraten : l'un est une vue d'un port maritime méridional datant de 1664 (actuellement situé à Enkhuizen) et l'autre une vue d'une église à Aarlanderveen dans l'ancien hôtel de ville d'Alphen aan den Rijn. Sur la base de ces deux tableaux, C. Hofstede de Groot, un historien de l'art néerlandais précoce, a classé les tableaux signés A. Beerstraaten comme étant d'Anthonie s'ils étaient d'une qualité inférieure à ceux déjà attribués à Abraham.
