Jan Abrahamsz Beerstraaten fu un pittore olandese di arte marina e paesaggi, noto in particolare per le sue raffigurazioni degli eventi della prima guerra anglo-olandese e della guerra olandese-svedese. Vi è una certa confusione riguardo all'identità di quattro pittori paesaggisti di nome Beerstraaten: Johannes, questo Jan Abrahamsz, Abraham e Anthonie. Il pittore Jan Abrahamsz si sposò ad Amsterdam il 30 agosto 1642. Da questo matrimonio nacquero undici figli, e quando si risposò nel 1665, nacque una figlia. Attualmente, il RKD registra Johannes come la stessa persona, e Abraham Beerstraaten è considerato il suo figlio primogenito. Anthonie Beerstraaten era imparentato con questo pittore. L'RKD ha registrato due dipinti firmati Anthonie van Beerstraten: uno è una veduta di un porto meridionale del 1664 (attualmente situato a Enkhuizen) e l'altro una veduta di una chiesa ad Aarlanderveen nell'ex municipio di Alphen aan den Rijn. Sulla base di questi due dipinti, C. Hofstede de Groot, un precoce storico dell'arte olandese, classificò i dipinti firmati A. Beerstraaten come opere di Anthonie se erano di qualità inferiore rispetto a quelli già attribuiti ad Abraham.
