Jan Brueghel el Joven

Jan Brueghel (también Bruegel o Breughel) el Joven fue un pintor barroco flamenco, e hijo de Jan Brueghel el Viejo. Brueghel nació y murió en el siglo XVII en Amberes. Fue entrenado por su padre y pasó su carrera produciendo obras en un estilo similar. Junto con su hermano Ambrosius, produjo paisajes, escenas alegóricas y otras obras de detalle meticuloso. Brueghel también copió obras de su padre y las vendió con la firma de su padre. Su obra se distingue de la de su progenitor por estar menos bien ejecutada y ser más ligera. Jan el Joven viajaba por Italia cuando su padre murió de cólera, y regresó rápidamente para hacerse cargo del taller de Amberes. Tras la muerte de su padre, cambió su firma de «Brueghel» a «Breughel». Al año siguiente, en 1626, se casó con Anna-Maria Janssens, hija de Abraham Janssens. Pronto se estableció y fue nombrado decano del Gremio de San Lucas en 1630. Ese mismo año, la corte francesa le encargó pintar el Ciclo de Adán. En los años siguientes, también produjo pinturas para la corte austriaca y trabajó de forma independiente en París, antes de regresar a Amberes en 1657. Colaboró con varios artistas destacados, incluidos Rubens, Hendrick van Balen (1575–1632), Adriaen Stalbemt (1580–1682), Lucas Van Uden (1596–1672), su cuñado David Teniers el Joven (1610-1690) y su suegro Abraham Janssens.
