Jan Brueghel le Jeune

Jan Brueghel (également Bruegel ou Breughel) le Jeune était un peintre baroque flamand, et le fils de Jan Brueghel l'Ancien. Brueghel est né et mort au 17e siècle à Anvers. Il a été formé par son père et a passé sa carrière à produire des œuvres dans un style similaire. Avec son frère Ambrosius, il a produit des paysages, des scènes allégoriques et d'autres œuvres de détail méticuleux. Brueghel a également copié les œuvres de son père et les a vendues avec la signature de son père. Son œuvre se distingue de celle de son parent par une exécution moins aboutie et plus légère. Jan le Jeune voyageait en Italie lorsque son père mourut du choléra, et il rentra rapidement pour prendre la direction de l'atelier d'Anvers. Après la mort de son père, il changea sa signature de « Brueghel » à « Breughel ». L'année suivante, en 1626, il épousa Anna-Maria Janssens, fille d'Abraham Janssens. Il s'imposa rapidement et fut nommé doyen de la Guilde de Saint-Luc en 1630. Cette même année, il fut chargé par la cour française de peindre le Cycle d'Adam. Dans les années suivantes, il produisit également des peintures pour la cour autrichienne et travailla indépendamment à Paris, avant de retourner à Anvers en 1657. Il collabora avec plusieurs artistes éminents, dont Rubens, Hendrick van Balen (1575–1632), Adriaen Stalbemt (1580–1682), Lucas Van Uden (1596–1672), son beau-frère David Teniers le Jeune (1610-1690) et son beau-père Abraham Janssens.
