Jan Brueghel (anche Bruegel o Breughel) il Giovane fu un pittore barocco fiammingo, e figlio di Jan Brueghel il Vecchio. Brueghel nacque e morì nel XVII secolo ad Anversa. Fu formato da suo padre e trascorse la sua carriera producendo opere in uno stile simile. Insieme al fratello Ambrosius, produsse paesaggi, scene allegoriche e altre opere di dettaglio meticoloso. Brueghel copiò anche opere di suo padre e le vendette con la firma di suo padre. La sua opera si distingue da quella del genitore per essere meno ben eseguita e più leggera. Jan il Giovane viaggiava in Italia quando suo padre morì di colera, e tornò rapidamente per prendere il controllo dello studio di Anversa. Dopo la morte del padre, cambiò la sua firma da «Brueghel» a «Breughel». L'anno successivo, nel 1626, sposò Anna-Maria Janssens, figlia di Abraham Janssens. Si affermò presto e fu nominato decano della Gilda di San Luca nel 1630. Nello stesso anno, la corte francese gli commissionò la pittura del Ciclo di Adamo. Negli anni seguenti, realizzò anche dipinti per la corte austriaca e lavorò indipendentemente a Parigi, prima di tornare ad Anversa nel 1657. Collaborò con numerosi artisti di spicco, tra cui Rubens, Hendrick van Balen (1575–1632), Adriaen Stalbemt (1580–1682), Lucas Van Uden (1596–1672), suo cognato David Teniers il Giovane (1610-1690) e suo suocero Abraham Janssens.
