Jan van der Heyden
Pioneiro em vistas urbanas e bombeiros
Jan van der Heyden foi um pintor, vitralista, desenhista e gravador holandês da era barroca. Van der Heyden foi um dos primeiros pintores holandeses a se especializar em paisagens urbanas e tornou-se um dos principais pintores arquitetônicos da Idade de Ouro holandesa. Ele pintou várias naturezas-mortas no início e no final de sua carreira. Jan van der Heyden foi também engenheiro e inventor que fez contribuições significativas para a tecnologia contemporânea de combate a incêndios. Juntamente com seu irmão Nicolaes, que era engenheiro hidráulico, ele inventou uma melhoria na mangueira de incêndio em 1672. Ele modificou a bomba de incêndio manual, reorganizou o corpo de bombeiros voluntários (1685) e escreveu e ilustrou o primeiro manual de combate a incêndios (Brandspuiten-boek). Um esquema abrangente de iluminação pública para Amsterdã, projetado e implementado por van der Heyden, permaneceu em operação de 1669 até 1840 e foi adotado como modelo por muitas outras cidades no exterior.
