Jan Weenix

Jan Weenix o Joannis Wenix era un pittore olandese. Fu istruito da suo padre, Jan Baptist Weenix, insieme a suo cugino Melchior d'Hondecoeter. Come suo padre, si dedicò a una varietà di soggetti, ma la sua fama è dovuta principalmente alle sue pitture di selvaggina morta e di scene di caccia. Molti quadri di questo genere un tempo attribuiti al Weenix anziano sono ora generalmente considerati opere del figlio. Weenix era membro della gilda dei pittori di Utrecht nel 1664 e nel 1668. All'età di vent'anni Jan Weenix rivaleggiò e poi superò suo padre in ampiezza di trattamento e ricchezza di colore. Nel 1697 dipinse un ritratto di Pietro il Grande, che visitava la Repubblica per studiare la costruzione navale, la scienza e l'arte della fortificazione. Ad Amsterdam Weenix era frequentemente impiegato per decorare case private con pitture murali su tela.
