ジャン＝アシル・ベヌヴィル
イタリア風景の仏画家
ジャン＝アシル・ブヌヴィルは、イタリアの景色を描いた作品で知られるフランスの風景画家です。 彼はパリで生まれた。弟のフランソワ＝レオンとともに、まずフランソワ＝エドゥアール・ピコに、後にレオン・コニエに師事した。彼はパリ、コンピエーニュ、フォンテーヌブロー近郊で多くの風景画を描いた。 1834年、彼はサロンで初の展覧会を開催した。3年後、彼はエコール・デ・ボザールに入学した。1845年、彼は作品『ユリシーズとナウシカ』で歴史風景画部門のローマ賞を受賞した。その結果、彼はイタリアへ3回渡航することができ、そのうちの1回はジャン＝バティスト・カミーユ・コローと同行し、ローマでアトリエを共有した。 メディチ荘での3年間の滞在後、彼はイタリアに残ることを決めたが、パリでの展覧会に作品を出展し続けた。彼は1851年に結婚し、ピエール・ルイとレオンという2人の息子をもうけ、両者とも建築家となった。1863年、彼はレジオンドヌール勲章のシュヴァリエに叙せられた。 彼は妻の死後にフランスへ戻り、1871年に再婚した。イタリア、ピレネー山脈、オランダへと頻繁に旅をし、1891年にパリで亡くなるまで続けた。 モーパッサンは、彼の短編『私の叔父ジュール』（1883年）をベヌヴィルに捧げた。
