Jean-Baptiste Cariven
Pintor decadente erótico anticlerical
Formado con maestros en Gaillac, luego en las Bellas Artes de Toulouse y en París, Cariven compartió y mantuvo durante su vida muchos lazos de amistad con artistas de Toulouse: André Roucolle, Charles Ponsin-Andarahy, Louis Cazottes... Llevó a cabo una carrera como pintor y profesor de arte. Continuó produciendo obras pintadas y grabadas bastante singulares, situándose claramente dentro del movimiento del decadentismo, con una propensión al erotismo y al anticlericalismo que caracteriza sus producciones, muchas de las cuales han permanecido en colecciones privadas.
