Jean-Baptiste Cariven
Peintre décadent érotique anticlérical
Formé auprès de maîtres à Gaillac, puis aux Beaux-Arts de Toulouse et à Paris, Cariven a partagé et entretenu tout au long de sa vie de nombreux liens d'amitié avec des artistes toulousains : André Roucolle, Charles Ponsin-Andarahy, Louis Cazottes... Il a mené une carrière de peintre et de professeur d'art. Il a continué à produire des œuvres peintes et gravées assez singulières, s'inscrivant clairement dans le mouvement du décadentisme, avec une propension à l'érotisme et à l'anticléricalisme qui caractérise ses productions, dont beaucoup sont restées dans le domaine privé.
