Jean-Baptiste Cariven
Pittore decadente erotico anticlericale
Formatosi presso maestri a Gaillac, poi alle Belle Arti di Tolosa e a Parigi, Cariven ha condiviso e mantenuto per tutta la vita molti legami di amicizia con artisti tolosani: André Roucolle, Charles Ponsin-Andarahy, Louis Cazottes... Ha svolto una carriera come pittore e insegnante d'arte. Ha continuato a produrre opere dipinte e incise piuttosto singolari, collocandosi chiaramente nel movimento del decadentismo, con una propensione all'erotismo e all'anticlericalismo che caratterizza le sue produzioni, molte delle quali sono rimaste di proprietà privata.
