Johann Baptist Drechsler
Weense bloemenschilderij-pionier
Johann Baptist Drechsler was een Oostenrijkse bloemenschilder Drechsler werd in 1766 in Wenen geboren als zoon van een porseleinschilder. In 1787 werd hij de eerste professor bloemenschilderkunst aan de Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Wenen, waar onder zijn studenten Josef Nigg en Franz Xaver Petter waren. Zijn stijl werd vooral beïnvloed door het fijn gedetailleerde werk van de Nederlandse bloemenschilder Jan van Huysum. Hij werkte naar verluidt tussen 1772 en 1782 in de Weense Porseleinfabriek. Er zijn voorbeelden van zijn werk te vinden in de Hermitage in Sint-Petersburg en in het Kunsthistorisches Museum. Hij stierf in Wenen in 1811.
