Johann Heinrich Schilbach era un pittore e incisore tedesco. Studiò con Ernst Fries (q.v.) a Roma e conobbe anche Ludwig Richter; divenne artista di corte a Darmstadt nel 1828. Morì a Darmstadt. Johann Heinrich Schilbach appartiene alla generazione dei giovani romantici che impiegò molto tempo per emergere dall'ombra dei primi romantici, più impegnati intellettualmente. Ha dedicato la sua opera esclusivamente a dipinti e disegni di paesaggio.
