Johann Michael Rottmayr
Bracht Italiaanse barok naar het noorden
Johann Michael Rottmayr was een Oostenrijkse schilder. Rottmayr werd geboren in Laufen an der Salzach, Beieren. Samen met zijn in Laufen geboren tijdgenoot Hans Adam Weissenkircher kreeg hij zijn opleiding van Johann Carl Loth in Venetië. Net zoals Weissenkircher de Italiaanse renaissance naar de Zuidelijke Alpen en het hof van de vorsten van Eggenberg in Graz had gebracht, bracht Rottmayr deze ten noorden van de Alpen. Vanaf 1689 werkte hij in Salzburg en werd hij aangesteld als hofschilder van de prins-bisschop van Salzburg.
