Johannes Paulus Moreelse
Ritrattista caravaggesco di Utrecht
Johannes Paulus Moreelse, o Johan Pauwelszon Moreelse, fu un pittore barocco olandese appartenente alla scuola del caravaggismo di Utrecht durante il Secolo d'oro olandese. Moreelse nacque a Utrecht, in Olanda. Su padre, Paulus Moreelse, era all'epoca un famoso pittore di ritratti. Si sa poco della sua vita. Johan Moreelse studiò a Utrecht, nello studio di suo padre, e poi a Roma (1627), dove fu nominato cavaliere di un ordine pontificio. Moreelse morì nella sua città natale durante un'epidemia di peste. Il suo piccolo numero di opere conosciute gli fu attribuito solo negli anni '70.
