John Obadiah Westwood

John Obadiah Westwood était un entomologiste et archéologue anglais, également reconnu pour ses talents artistiques. Il a publié plusieurs ouvrages illustrés sur les insectes et les antiquités. Il fut parmi les premiers entomologistes à occuper un poste académique à l'Université d'Oxford. Il était un théologien naturel, fermement anti-darwinien, et adoptait parfois une perspective quinarienne. Bien qu'il n'ait jamais beaucoup voyagé, il a décrit des espèces du monde entier sur la base de spécimens, en particulier des espèces plus grandes, curieuses et colorées, obtenus par des naturalistes et des collectionneurs en Angleterre.
