John Obadiah Westwood foi um entomologista e arqueólogo inglês, também conhecido por seus talentos artísticos. Ele publicou várias obras ilustradas sobre insetos e antiguidades. Foi um dos primeiros entomologistas a ocupar um cargo acadêmico na Universidade de Oxford. Era um teólogo natural, firmemente anti-darwinista, e às vezes adotava uma perspectiva quinária. Embora nunca tenha viajado amplamente, ele descreveu espécies de todo o mundo com base em espécimes, especialmente das espécies maiores, curiosas e coloridas, obtidos por naturalistas e colecionadores na Inglaterra.
