Joseph Edward Southall
Renacimiento del temple en Arts and Crafts
Joseph Edward Southall fue un pintor inglés asociado al movimiento Arts and Crafts. Figura destacada del renacimiento de la pintura al temple en los siglos XIX y principios del XX, Southall fue el líder del Grupo de Artistas-Artesanos de Birmingham, uno de los últimos baluartes del romanticismo en las artes visuales y un vínculo importante entre los prerrafaelitas tardíos y los simbolistas de la Slade School en el cambio de siglo. Cuáquero de por vida, Southall fue un activo socialista y pacifista, inicialmente como miembro radical del Partido Liberal y posteriormente del Partido Laborista Independiente. Southall fue elegido asociado de la Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) en 1898 y miembro en 1902. Se convirtió en presidente de la sociedad en 1939 y permaneció en el cargo hasta su muerte en 1944.
