ジョゼフ・エドワード・サザール
アーツ・アンド・クラフツのテンペラ復興
ジョセフ・エドワード・サウスオールは、アーツ・アンド・クラフツ運動に関連したイングランドの画家である。 19世紀から20世紀初頭のテンペラ画復興における主要な人物であるサザールは、バーミンガム芸術家職人集団の指導者でした。この集団は視覚芸術におけるロマン主義の最後の拠点の一つであり、後期ラファエル前派と世紀転換期のスレード象徴主義者たちを結ぶ重要な架け橋となりました。 生涯を通じてクエーカー教徒であったサウスオールは、熱心な社会主義者かつ平和主義者であり、当初は自由党の急進派メンバーとして、その後独立労働党の一員として活動した。 サソールは1898年にバーミンガム王立芸術家協会（RBSA）の準会員に選出され、1902年には正会員となりました。彼は1939年に協会の会長に就任し、1944年に死去するまでその職を務めました。
